Papers of Charles Smith, 1968-1988.

The collection consists chiefly of letters of Charles Smith and his wife, Nora, to William and Madeleine Moss together with a letter to Moss's mother. Smith writes about his current painting and other work, including his continued involvement with the University of Virginia following his retirement as chair of the Art Dept. Topics include work in Cabell Hall, an architectural award for Lewis Mumford, disparaging comments on art dept. faculty, University of Virginia purchase of his artwork, and genealogy. The collection also contains some hand drawn cards and notes by Smith, a keepsake from the Cockescraw Press, 1963, newspaper clippings and autograph envelopes.
